Student in hospital after stabbing at University of Sydney


A student was taken to hospital around 8:35 am this morning after emergency services responded to an alleged stabbing at the University of Sydney.

“Paramedics treated a 22-year-old man at the scene. He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a serious but stable condition,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.  

A 14-year-old boy was later arrested near the hospital. NSW Police said the alleged victim and the teenager were not known to each other, and that there is no ongoing risk to the community.  

“I am shocked and saddened to inform you that a student in our community was attacked on our Camperdown Campus this morning in what police believe is an isolated incident,” said the university’s Vice-Chancellor Mark Scott in an email to staff and students 

Police were seen at the University of New South Wales lower campus following the incident. No further details are available currently.  

UNSW Security could not comment on the situation.
