#Logang4life: Online Virality and Virtual Witch Hunts

The Logan Paul incident highlights a key issue for social media platforms: where is the line to be drawn between protecting content consumers, particularly those of a younger demographic, such as Paul’s viewers, and creating an inappropriately censored environment? To what degree are companies like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter even responsible for the content posted on their sites in the first place? 

 

 

 

Breakfast TV’s Problem with Representation

Regardless of how shocking and inaccurate the broadcasted sentiments were, it is not surprising that they were aired on breakfast TV. It is not the choice of topic that is really concerning, but rather the lack of expertise on the panel, which seems to be typical of morning show panels.

The commentators were brought onto the show and asked to speak on a topic about which they knew next to nothing -

 

My Race is Not Your Fetish

I’ve heard it argued that stereotypes aren’t necessarily a bad thing – that there are “good” stereotypes which give Black men an upper hand in the pursuit of everything from casual sex to long-term relationships. I’m going to tell you now that there is no such thing as a good stereotype, because all stereotypes are damaging and their very existence perpetuates racial biases that benefit no one.
